Position is located in Watertown, MA but includes remote work to various locations and with multiple collaborators. Requires someone who can develop in collaboration with lead programmer, prepare documentation and train end users. Some telecommuting is okay. Applicant must be prepared and able to travel internationally to developing countries to set up servers, train administrators and end users. If you are not comfortable with travel to low resource settings, please do not apply.
Project includes use of cell phones to capture data, and the implementation of a backend system for an end to end solution to data capture, alerting, analysis and reporting using open source tools in a unified/integrated platform developed by the team.
Additional web-based, and network maintenance tasks will be required from time to time in the Watertown office under the direction of the technology administrator (support for local servers, drupla development, web-site development or maintenance).
Position is temporary (October 1 to December 31, 2009), but may be extended depending upon funding.

Essential Job Functions:
1. Use the open source platform to develop forms and reports for data collection including working with clients to design data collection tools, programming in Xforms and Orbeon, and porting forms to JavaRosa and /or HTML for display on handsets; 2. In collaboration with client, develop training protocols and materials for system operators and end users and deliver training in the field including installing and configuring platform in a virtual machine on a local server.
3. Work with clients and staff to develop reports from the SQL database and building a report transmission protocol to appropriate recipients; 4. To the extent possible work with team to program additional functionality to meet client needs.
