JAXRS Presentation
Presentation Overview:
Bill Burke will give a talk on the fundamentals of REST and show how with the new JAX-RS specification, you can build RESTful Web Services in Java.
Presenter Bio:
Born in 1971, Bill fell in love with middleware when he was introduced to DCE while at the parent company of Open Environment Corporation. He later went on to being a core member of the Orbix2000 team at Iona, where he helped them build some of their CORBA products. After weathering a few failed internet startups building J2EE applications, Bill stumbled into JBoss and helped them with their clustering architecture and EJB container. Now, as lead architect of JBoss 4, his main focus is on bringing AOP concepts and technology to the JBoss application server. Bill is co-author of OReillys "JBoss 3.2 Workbook", and has numerous other in-print and on-line publications. He graduated magna cum laude with a B.S.C.S. from Northeastern University in Boston in 1994. In his spare time, now that JBoss is the full-time job, Bill likes to hang with his wonderful wife and is a rabid football fan being a New England Patriots season ticket holder for the past 10 years.
People had this to say about this event:
- Bill answered many of the questions I had about RESTFul services. He also provided some very good resources to followup with after the meeting.
- A bit more demos or illustrations would have been preferable to the all-text slide deck.
Oh, and the pizza ran out before I got there. :-(
- That was the right thing for me to dive into and start knowing more abt it. I appreaciate Nejug sposnsors for helping to make this events.
Thanks a ton
- I really enjoyed Bill Burke's presentation on REST. As a Java newby, it was very helpful to get the basics of Rest, and the differences between REST and WS*, etc. The presentation went a little too long, as there were a lot of interruptions from the audience. I think that is good, but also can drag on depending on the content. All-in-all, good.
- The presenter was not as lively as some but his knowledge of the subject was solid. While I'm generally in favor of questions from the floor regarding ambiguity (or maybe a presenter is just plain wrong) but in this presentation, there was too much opinion from the floor (IMO). It broke up the flow too much.
- I don't know if Bill was a little off or what, but his presentation was kind of monotone and boring. That said, when I talked to him in person, he was very engaging.
- I would have liked more examples throughout and not so much background info. I realize that this may not have been practical though.

- I'd like to see more demos in general, and deep technical content. I've real many articles by Bill and I know he can do it.

- I loved hearing Bill talk about JaxRS
