Java and Wireless Communication

Thu, Aug 10 6:00pm

Oracle
45 Network Way, Burlington, Ma

Presentation Overview:

Agenda

We will begin this meeting with a discussion of the recruiting and job solicitation issue that was discussed at the June meeting, and try to come to some sort of resolution as to how the user group should handle this issue. We will then continue the discussion about Applets and if they are really dead.

After these short discussions, a technical representative from PointBase will lead a discussion about how Java Technology is used within the wireless communications industry. PointBase will discuss Java,WAP (Wireless Application Protocol), and how wml (wireless markup language) all play a part in the overall wireless communication industry.

After a short break, we will hold another raffle of more Java-Series books and posters from the folks at Addison-Wesley. After the raffle, PointBase will then give a second presentation of how they are using these technologies in the industry.

This is a fascinating topic, and should be very informative, especially considering it was one of the hottest topics at the JavaOne conference.

The technical presentation will be given by Mark Pawlowski, who is a Senior System Engineer for PointBase with over 15 years of experience. Mark has held different technical positions including; Software trainer, Oracle DBA, Senior Product Specialist and Technical Sales Consultant. Besides PointBase, Mark has also worked at Riverton(maker of Object Oriented design tools, LogicWorks(produce database and business process modeling tools) and Magic Solutions( maker of help desk application software). To relax, Mark plays guitar with a local NYC group called Yanezniyoo.

As always, we will have pizza and soft drinks available (for free, of course) at the beginning of the meeting. Also keep in mind that if you are not able to make it to the meeting at 5:30pm due to work or traffic, please show up late! Your attendance and participation are important, regardless what time you make it to the meeting.
