Peter Haggar
from IBM, author of the best selling book Practical Java,
will explore various performance issues of Java. Peter will discuss
numerous areas of Java programming where performance problems are
encountered, and ways to minimize, and in some cases, eliminate
them. This session will discuss code design and generation, Java
compilers and bytecodes, JITs, and other techniques for improving
the performance of your code. Sample source code will be provided
on the web site after the meeting.
Addison-Wesley will be providing several copies of his book Practical
Java to be raffled off during the break. Peter will also be
available after the meeting for questions and book signing. Also,
Susan Hulley-Miller, a Software IT Specialist at IBM's Northeast
Data Management group in Waltham, will be giving away free copies
of DB2 Everyplace.
Peter Haggar is a Senior Software Engineer with IBM in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina and the author of the best selling book, "Practical Java", published by Addison-Wesley. He has a broad range of programming experience, having worked on development tools, class libraries, and operating systems. At IBM, Peter works on emerging Java technology, and most recently on real-time Java. Peter is also a frequent technical speaker on Java technology at numerous industry conferences.
